May Wood Named SEC Golfer of the Week 4/10/03
Wood is the first Commodore in three years to earn the
honor

Wood, a freshman from Signal Mountain, Tenn., has been named
the SEC Golfer of the Week. Wood finished in the Top 8 in
two tournaments including an individual victory at the Bryan
National Collegiate and an eighth place finish at the Liz
Murphey Collegiate Classic. Wood shot a five-round total of
362 in the two tournaments for a 72.4 per round average. She
shot three rounds of 71 along with a 73 and a 76.
Wood finished in a four-way tie atop the leaderboard
at the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament and led a Vanderbilt
charge in which every player shot 75 or better. She started
second round action in a tie four fourth and then shot her
second consecutive 1-under (71) to move into the four tie
for first place. It was the first collegiate individual title
for Wood.
She followed that with an eighth place finish
at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at Athens, Ga., with
a three round total of 220. She started the final round in
a tie for 23rd place and improved 15 places with her final
and best round of 71.
Wood is the second Commodore to ever receive
SEC Golfer of the Week honors and the first in three years.
