Names 51 Commodores to Academic Honor Rolls 4/30/03
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike
Slive announced today that 51 Vanderbilt student-athletes,
representing six teams, have been named to their respective
SEC Academic Honor Rolls. Vanderbilt had the highest number
recognized for the sports of women's golf
(9) and women's tennis (8).
Among Vanderbilt's teams, the women's track & field team
led the way with 15 student-athletes being named to the SEC
Academic Honor Roll. Florida was tops in the league with 25
student-athletes on the honor roll.
The Commodore baseball squad followed with 10 of its student-athletes
making the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Arkansas led the way in
the SEC with 22 of its student-athletes being selected.
Women's golf had a team-record and a league-best nine student-athletes
named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Following the Commodores
in the league were Alabama (8) and South Carolina (6).
Also leading the conference was Vanderbilt's women's tennis
team, which had eight student-athletes honored on the SEC
Academic Honor Roll. Next up behind the Commodores with seven
honorees were Kentucky and South Carolina.
Vanderbilt's men's golf team had five of its student-athletes
selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. The five honorees
were three behind the eight that South Carolina had and tied
the Commodores with four other schools for second place.
Rounding out the Vanderbilt contingent was the men's tennis
team, which had four student-athletes named to the SEC Academic
Honor Roll. South Carolina led all men's tennis squads with
seven honorees.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1)
have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year (two
semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or
higher for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in terms
of academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester or 36
quarter hours toward a degree. The 2003 SEC Academic Honor
Rolls are based on grades from the 2001-2002 academic calendar.
