Hahn Finishes Third in Heptathalon at USA Junior National Championships 6/19/02

Vanderbilt freshman Josie Hahn (Clinton, Tenn.) finished third in the Heptahalon at the USA Junior National Championships held at the University of California at Berkeley this week. Hahn posted a personal best with her score and came close to an automatic qualification for the World Junior Championships in Jamaica later this summer.

"Josie gave us some excitement for both days of the event," stated Vanderbilt head coach Lori Shepard. "She beat her personal best by more than 200 points. She can tentatively compete on some USA Track and Field junior team later this summer. She had an impressive two days and was a great ambassador for Vanderbilt."

Hahn had personal bests in the high jump and javelin during the meet, winning both events. She finished behind sisters Julie and Diana Pickler in the competiton.

"The final score of the event came down to the half-mile," added Shepard. "Josie had a good time, but the Picklers had a better half mile."

Hahn will look to continue to improve next season as she returns as a sophomore to the Commodore track team.
