GREAT EIGHT RESULTS
Vanderbilt
to Host the Great Eight Track and Field Invitational, Middle
Tennessee's Elite High School Track and Field Athletes to
Compete
NASHVILLE,
Tenn Vanderbilt University and the Commodore Track and Field
Team will host the annual Great Eight Track and Field Invitational
Thursday (April 18) at the Vanderbilt Track located on the
Vanderbilt campus at Natchez Trace and Blakemore Avenue. The
field events get underway at 3 pm with the running events
beginning at 5 p.m.
Invitations
were sent to student-athletes at 72 different schools in the
mid-state area and only the top eight individuals in each
event will compete.
"Vanderbilt
University and the Commodore Track and Field Team are proud
to team with Vanderbilt Sports Medicine to provide this meet
for the community," Vanderbilt Head Coach Lori Shepard
said.
Some
of the highlighted events include the boys 200-meters featuring
Zach Hinds of Hillwood High School and Sean Waller of Hunters
Lane. Will Denbo of Montgomery Bell Academy is featured in
the shot put, while Martin Luther King's Diane Harrison will
compete in the high jump. Josetta Brooks of Glencliff High
School will compete in both hurdle events.
"This is a chance for our student-athletes to give back
to a sport they love," Shepard added. "For many
of these high school athletes, it will be one of the highest
caliber competitions they will see this side of the state
meet."
