Vanderbilt to Host the Great Eight Track and Field Invitational, Middle Tennessee's Elite High School Track and Field Athletes to Compete

NASHVILLE, Tenn Vanderbilt University and the Commodore Track and Field Team will host the annual Great Eight Track and Field Invitational Thursday (April 18) at the Vanderbilt Track located on the Vanderbilt campus at Natchez Trace and Blakemore Avenue. The field events get underway at 3 pm with the running events beginning at 5 p.m.

Invitations were sent to student-athletes at 72 different schools in the mid-state area and only the top eight individuals in each event will compete.

"Vanderbilt University and the Commodore Track and Field Team are proud to team with Vanderbilt Sports Medicine to provide this meet for the community," Vanderbilt Head Coach Lori Shepard said.

Some of the highlighted events include the boys 200-meters featuring Zach Hinds of Hillwood High School and Sean Waller of Hunters Lane. Will Denbo of Montgomery Bell Academy is featured in the shot put, while Martin Luther King's Diane Harrison will compete in the high jump. Josetta Brooks of Glencliff High School will compete in both hurdle events.

"This is a chance for our student-athletes to give back to a sport they love," Shepard added. "For many of these high school athletes, it will be one of the highest caliber competitions they will see this side of the state meet."
