Byrne, Roberts,
Humber Earn Wins at TSU Meet
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior distance runner Colleen Byrne,
sophomore distance runner Nadiyah Humber and sophomore
pole vaulter Paige Roberts earned individual wins at
the Boston-Moon Invitational held Saturday on the Tennessee
State University campus.
Byrne, who missed the 2002 outdoor and 2003 indoor
seasons, won her first race in two years Saturday, handily
capturing the 1,500-meters in 4:47.19. Byrne, the Commodores’
fourth fastest 1,500-meter runner ever, appears to be
returning to form and should continue to progress as
the team hosts its invitational this weekend and heads
toward the Southeastern Conference Championships next
month.
Humber, who also missed the 2002 outdoor season, led
a 1-2 Commodore finish in the 3,000-meter run. Humber
and freshman Anna Bishop controlled the race, finishing
with times of 10:43.85 and 11:02.58, respectively.
Roberts continues to challenge the school’s outdoor
vault record she set two weeks ago. One day after clearing
11’2” at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville,
Roberts achieved the same height Saturday while winning
the Boston-Moon meet. She missed attempts that would
have upped her team record of 11’6.25” set
April 5 in Columbia, S.C.
Junior Mary Baldwin also ran her best 400-meter hurdles
of the season, finishing a close second in 1:04.50.
Other Commodore athletes finishing among the top eight
in their event at the Boston-Moon Invitational included:
• Andrea Andrews, 6th in the 100 meters (12.54)
and eighth in the 200 meters (26.13)
• Anna Laura-Morgan, 7th in the 800 meters (2:27.10)
• Lindsey Avocato, 8th in the high jump (5’0”)
• Laura Miller, 4th in the pole vault (9’6”)
