| Hahn Earns Fourth
in Raleigh Relays High Jump; Vensherrie Campbell Adds
Shot Put Personal Best
RALEIGH, N.C. - Vanderbilt sophomore Josie Hahn provided
the Commodores’ top individual finish Saturday
at the adidas Raleigh Relays with a fourth place in
the high jump.
While Hahn earned her placing with a clearance of 5’5”,
junior thrower Vensherrie Campbell came away from the
North Carolina State University meet with a personal
record in the shot put. Campbell tossed the shot 45’1.75”,
topping her previous best in the event by more than
a foot. Campbell becomes the second longest shot putter
in Vanderbilt history, trailing only former VU All-American
Leslie Vidmar, who threw 52’10.75” in 1997.
The Commodores’ 4-x-800 relay squad of Cicely
Campbell, Joy Parker, Colleen Byrne and Caitlin Shannon
earned a fourth place finish behind Seton Hall, Wake
Forest and Eastern Michigan. Their relay time of 9:07.19
was four seconds faster than a week earlier at the Alabama
Relays.
Hahn’s 5’5” high jump continued her
consistency in the event, but did not approach her best
effort of the season. She cleared 5’7.75”
last week during the Alabama Relays heptathlon. Earlier,
during the 2003 indoor season, Hahn regularly topped
5’8.5” and matched the Vanderbilt indoor
record with a 5’9.75” effort in the Southeastern
Conference pentathlon competition.
In other competition, Caitlin Shannon continued to
lower her personal best at 1,500 meters, running 4:42.14
to finish sixth in the second heat of the 1,500-meter
competition.
Ryan Tolbert, a former Vanderbilt All-American and
current assistant coach, won her third consecutive race
at the Raleigh Relays. Running unattached, Tolbert captured
the 400-meter hurdles in 57.39, two seconds faster than
her winning effort last week at the Alabama Relays.
The Commodores will travel to the University of South
Carolina next Saturday to compete in the SEC Quad Meet.
