Distance Medley Squad Post Wins at Southern Illinois Meet

Carbondale, Ill. - High jumper Josie Hahn won her second
consecutive
competition and freshman distance runner Erika Schneble
continued her strong
indoor showing with an impressive victory Saturday as
the Commodores
prepared for the upcoming Southeastern Conference Championships
by
participating in the Saluki Invitational at Southern
Illinois University.
Hahn outdueled Latrice Gray of Southern Illinois to
win a high jump
competition with the second staight week. Hahn's winning
effort of 5'7" was
one inch off her personal-best performance a week earlier
that captured the
Indiana Invitational.
Schneble continues to impress in her first indoor
season. She easily
captured the 3,000 meters in 10:03.63, nearly 10 seconds
faster than her
previous best performance at the distance. It was Schneble's
third indoor
victory and represents the fifth fastest indoor 3,000
meters by a Commodore.
The Commodores also received a winning effort of 12:33.78
from its distance
medley foursome of Alisa Cotter, Cicely Campbell, Anna-Laura
Morgan and Joy
Parker.
The Commodores are idle next weekend as they prepare
for the SEC
Championships March 1-2 at the University of Arkansas.
In other individual performances, freshman Jackie Wachsman
achieved a
personal best of 18:27.99 while finishing second in
the 5,000 meters.
Another freshman, hurdler Amanda Mullins-Hall, finished
third in the
55-meter hurdles with a time of 8:12. Her effort ranks
among the top five
all-time by a Vanderbilt hurdler. Hahn also set a personal
best in the
hurdles with a 8.39, good for sixth place overall. Catlin
Shannon followed
her win last weekend in the Indiana Invitational mile
with a third place
effort of 5:13.67.Two jumpers, Andrea Andrews and Shawnette
Adams, posted career bests in their specialties. Andrews
sailed 17'9.75" in the long jump while Adams went
37'2.5" in the triple jump. Both efforts were good
for fourth place
finishes. Senior Vensherrie Campbell, coming off a minor
injury, finished
fifth in the 20-pound weight throw with a solid toss
of 52'4.5". Freshman
Latisha Bryant earned a sixth place finish in the 800
meters with a time of
2:20.41.
