| Josie Hahn Wins
High Jump at Indiana Invitational Saturday; Freshmen Mullins-Hall,
Schneble and Shannon Also Enjoy Strong Showing
BLOOMINGTON,
Ind. - Vanderbilt sophomore Josie Hahn captured the
Indiana Invitational high jump competition with a 5’8”
leap, providing one of several solid performances by
Commodore athletes at the meet this weekend.
Hahn’s jump matched her previous indoor personal
best set last year. It was the first individual event
win of this season for the Clinton, Tenn. native.
The meet also produced superb performances by three
Commodore freshmen - hurdler Amanda Mullins-Hall, miler
Caitlin Shannon and distance runner Erika Schneble -
and former Vanderbilt standout Ryan Tolbert.
Mullins-Hall produced her finest effort of the indoor
season, finishing second by losing a deadheat with Korto
Dunbar of Southern Illinois in the 60-meter hurdles.
Her time of 8.60 is a collegiate personal best for Mullins-Hall.
She is close to meeting the NCAA Championships provisional
time of 8.43 for the event.
Schneble and Shannon both lowered personal bests in
their races. Scheble had one of her strongest performances
of the season, finishing third in the 3,000 meters with
a time of 10:12.91. Shannon continues to show improvement,
and finished fourth with a season-best 5:07.03.
A pair of Commodore seniors, Cicely Campbell and Joy
Parker, finished fifth and sixth in the 800 meters with
times of 2:16.28 and 2:16.39, respectively.
Tolbert, the 1997 NCAA 400-meter hurdle champion who
now serves as a Vanderbilt assistant coach, handily
captured the 600 meters in 1:32.36. The time equals
the sixth fastest run in the United States this season.
The Commodores travel to Southern Illinois University
next Saturday for the Saluki Invitational. |
