Wins 5,000 Meters At Kentucky SEC Track & Field Challenge

Lexington, Kent. - Vanderbilt freshman distance runner
Erika Schneble earned her second consecutive indoor
win by capturing the 5,000 meters at the Kentucky SEC
Challenge Saturday.
Schneble, from Hendersonville, N.C., ran 17:24.13
in defeating a conference field that included Lauren
Burks of Georgia and Katie Flaute of Tennessee. Two
weeks ago, the freshman won her first collegiate indoor
race at 3,000 meters in Columbus, Ohio.
Schnebles effort, the third fastest 5,000 meters
ever indoors by a Vanderbilt runner, was the Commodores
top performance Saturday. The team finished eighth with
23 total points. South Carolina, a national track and
field power, easily won the meet with 170 total points.
Joy Parker used a career best performance to claim
fifth place in the 800 meters. The senior knocked three
seconds off her previous best effort at the distance,
running 2:15.26.
Josie Hahn, the Commodores most versatile athlete,
earned points in the high jump (57.75) and
60-meter hurdles (9.19).
The Commodores return to competition next weekend
at the Cannon IV Invitational in Indianapolis.
