Junior Vensherrie Campbell Sets School Record As Women’s Indoor Track & Field Gets Underway

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Junior Vensherrie Campbell extended the Vanderbilt indoor weight throw record by nearly 18 inches last weekend, providing the top effort as the Commodores opened their indoor track season at the Middle Tennessee Invitational.

Campbell tossed the weight 54’7.5 to win the shot put competition. The mark betters the previous team record of 53’.0 set in 2001 in Kyshia Ewing. She also placed second in the shot put with a new personal best of 44'9.25.

“Our staff was very pleased for Vensherrie. Her performance was awesome and was a tribute to her training effort since last year,” Head Coach Lori Shepard said.

Campbell was one of three individual winners in the five-team invitational held on the MTSU campus. Other winning performances were posted by sophomore heptathlon specialist Josie Hahn in the high jump and sophomore Paige Roberts in the pole vault.

Team scores were not recorded at the meet. Twenty Commodores participated, though distance runners were held out from the early-season competition.

The Commodores have more than a month to prepare for their next event, the Ohio State Invitational, scheduled Jan. 11 in Columbus.
