Junior Earns Honor for Second Time in Three Months
SKILLMAN,
N.J. - The accolades continue to pour in for junior Bobby Reynolds
(Acworth, Ga.), as he was named National Player of the Month
for March by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday.
He has now received this award twice in the last three months.
The female recipient was Tennessee senior Vilmarie Castellvi,
who also has won the award twice in 2003.
Reynolds, who is currently the No. 2-ranked player in college
tennis and the highest ranked American, finished the month with
a 7-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in Southeastern Conference
dual matches. Three of his seven wins came against players ranked
in the top 30. His only loss of the month came to now No. 7-ranked
Michael Kogan of Tulane.
Following his straight-set win over Kirk Jackson of Middle Tennessee
State on Wednesday, Reynolds has posted a 36-6 overall record
while having won 23 of his last 24 matches. He also helped lead
the Commodores to their highest national ranking in the programs
history of No. 8.
Reynolds and the rest of the Commodores return to action at
2 p.m. Friday for their final home match of the regular season
against No. 12-ranked Kentucky. If Vanderbilt wins or South
Carolina loses to Florida, the Commodores will receive one of
the four first-round byes at the SEC Tournament, which begins
