Harris Advances in Consolation Draw at ITA Championship;
Reynolds Fall in Main Draw
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Junior Chad Harris (Aurora, Colo.),
who is ranked No. 38 in the ITA National Rankings, remained
alive in the consolation round at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American
Championship after defeating No. 19-ranked Divan Coetzee of
New Mexico in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Harris will return
to action on Saturday morning when he takes on No. 55 William
Barker of Rice.
Junior Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, Ga.) was not as fortunate,
as he fell in the third round of the main draw to the No.
11 seed Alex Vlaski of Washington, 6-2, 6-3. Reynolds finished
the tournament with a 2-1 singles record.

Reynolds and Harris Advance
on Friday Morning at ITA Championship
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Juniors Bobby Reynolds (Acworth,
Ga.) and Chad Harris (Aurora, Colo.) advanced on Friday morning
at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship. Reynolds moved
on to the round of 16 of the main draw, while Harris stayed
alive in the consolation draw.
Sixth-seeded Reynolds picked up another straight-set victory
over No. 34-ranked Florian Marquardt of Virginia Commonwealth,
6-3, 6-2. The junior will now take on the winner of the No.
11 seed Alex Vlaski of Washington or Angelo Niculescu of South
Carolina at 3 p.m. (EST) at The Champions Club.
Harris also picked up a straight-set win on Friday morning,
as he defeated senior Troy Hahn of Florida, 6-3, 7-6. Harris
will take on No. 90-ranked Divan Coetzee of New Mexico in
his next consolation match, which will be held later this
afternoon.
Reynolds and Smith Fall
in Doubles at Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship 10/10/02
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Vanderbilts doubles tandem
of juniors Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, Ga.) and Lewis Smith (Memphis,
Tenn.) dropped both of their doubles matches on Thursday evening
at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship at The Champions
Club.
Reynolds and Smith dropped a heartbreaker to top-seeded Scott
Lipsky and David Martin of Stanford, 9-7. The two returned
later in the evening in the consolation round to take on Oliver
Choo and Jonathan Chu of Harvard, which they also lost, 8-6.
Due to inclement weather in the Chattanooga area, second
round singles matches will be played on Friday morning. Reynolds,
who is seeded sixth, will take on Florian Marquardt of Virginia
Commonwealth in the round of 32.
Reynolds Advances
at Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championship
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. In a morning full of major upsets,
Vanderbilt junior Bobby Reynolds (Acworth, Ga.) avoided the
upset bug by advancing to the second round of the Icy Hot/ITA
All-American Championship at The Champions Club.
Reynolds, who is seeded sixth in the tournament, easily defeated
Nathan Price of Arkansas, 6-1, 6-0. Next up for Reynolds is
senior Florian Marquardt of Virginia Commonwealth, who defeated
Stanfords K.C. Corkery in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Chad Harris (Aurora, Colo.) was not as fortunate in
his opening round match, as he lost to senior Mike Yani of
Duke, 6-3, 6-4. Harris now falls back into the consolation
draw where he will take on Florida senior Troy Hahn, who lost
to the No. 4 seed Amer Delic of Illinois, 7-6 (1), 6-4.
In other action, Saber Kadiri of Virginia Tech upset top
seed Jesse Witten of Kentucky in three sets. David Martin
of Stanford, who was seeded eighth, and Brian Wilson of Illinois,
who entered seeded 16th, both lost their opening round matches.
