2001-02 (Sophomore): Became only the second Vanderbilt
men's tennis player to earn ITA All-American honors and to win 30 singles matches
in a single season (Chris Groer) … made it to the second round of the NCAA Championship
in singles before losing in three sets to Brandon Wagner of Georgia … finished
season ranked No. 15 nationally in singles and No. 32 in doubles (Lewis Smith)
by the ITA … finished season ranked No. 5 in singles and No. 7 in doubles in
the South by the ITA … earned first team All-SEC honors after going 5-5 during
the SEC regular season at the No. 1 position … defeated eventual NCAA national
singles champion Matias Boeker of Georgia and eventual national runner-up Jesse
Witten of Kentucky … advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Intercollegiate
… qualified for the ITA All-American Championship … won the Ole Miss Fall Classic
… advanced to the third round of the Region III Championships.
2000-01 (Freshman): Had several upset victories including
wins over No. 50 Scott Mayer, No. 73 Adam Carey and No. 70 Matt Klinger...Served
as first alternate in the NCAA Doubles Championships with Eddie Coates...Tallied
a 23-15 overall record in singles and went 27-12 in doubles...Earned a 6-1 record
at the ITA All-American Championships, defeating two seeded-teams and advancing
to the Main Draw, only one of two teams from the Prequalies to do so...Advanced
to the quarterfinals in doubles and the semifinals in singles of the MTSU Fall
Invitational...Played in the No. 2 singles championship match at the Nike/Fighting
Illini Fall Invitational...One of three Commodores to tally more than 20 overall
singles wins...Finished the season ranked No. 43 in the nation in doubles.
High School/Juniors: Finalist for the
Consolation Boys 18s Nationals in 2000...Earned a No. 10 national
ranking in 2000 and No. 12 in 1999...Finalist in the Boys
18s Doubles Clay Court Nationals in 1999...Ranked No. 3 in
the south in 1999 for juniors...Won Georgia's Most Improved
Player of the Year in 1998...In 1997, finalist for the boys
16s national indoors...Won the National Indoors Sportsmanship
