Commodores Set to Play Another Difficult Schedule
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - The Vanderbilt men’s soccer team will compete
in 19 regular-season games in 2003, nine of which will be
held at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. Head coach Tim McClements
will also have his squad competing in three tournaments early
on in the season.
The Commodores will begin the
season with a trip to Evanston, Ill. to take part in the Northwestern
Tournament on August 30-31. Vanderbilt will take on host Northwestern
on 2 p.m. Saturday, and then follow that contest up with a
game against DePaul at 12 p.m. Sunday. This will be first
meeting against both of these teams for the Commodores.
McClements’ squad will
then hit the road the following weekend to take on Vermont
and New Hampshire in the Vermont Tournament in Burlington,
Vt. Just like the two teams in the Northwestern Tournament,
Vanderbilt will be taking on Vermont and New Hampshire for
the first time.
The final tournament the Commodores
will participate in is the annual Vanderbilt/Puma Soccer Classic,
which will be held September 19 and 21 at the Soccer Complex.
Along with the Commodores, Davidson, College of Charleston
and Missouri Valley Conference rival Western Kentucky will
compete in the tournament. Vanderbilt will take on Davidson
on Friday the 19th and College of Charleston on Sunday the
21st. Vanderbilt has taken on Davidson twice, while this will
be its first meeting against the College of Charleston.
The Commodores’ home schedule
also includes games with local foes Lipscomb and Belmont,
along with East Carolina and MVC opponents Drake, Tulsa, Southern
Methodist and defending MVC champion and College Cup Final
Four participant Creighton.
Vanderbilt will hit the road
to take on Wright State and conference opponents Bradley,
Eastern Illinois, Western Kentucky and Evansville.
