Lapkewych Earns Honorable

Freshman Becomes Eighth Vanderbilt Player to Earn All-MVC

NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Freshman Kyle Lapkewych (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling
Heights) became the eighth Vanderbilt mens soccer player
to earn All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, as he was named
to the honorable mention team for the 2002 season. He becomes
only the second Vanderbilt freshman to earn All-MVC recognition.
Jimmy Stone was named to the MVC All-Newcomer team in 2000.
Lapkewych had a solid freshman season for first-year head
coach Tim McClements. While playing in 13 of the Commodores
18 games, eight of which he started, Lapkewych was regularly
called upon to mark the opponents top player. He also was
solid contributor to Vanderbilts offense, as he finished
with one goal, two assists and seven shots on the season.
The freshmans only goal came during the 2002 season
came against cross-town foe Belmont in the inagural game at
the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. With time winding down in regulation,
Lapkewych scored the game-winning goal with less than four
minutes remaining to give Vanderbilt the win. His two assists
came against MVC foes Bradley and Eastern Illinois.
