Mens Soccer Falls to Southwest Missouri State In
OT, 1-0 10/25/02
NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - The Vanderbilt mens soccer team once again came
so close to picking up its first Missouri Valley Conference
victory of the 2002 season, but Southwest Missouri State midfielder
Jim Levesque wiped out any chances of that happening with
his overtime goal in the 98th minute to give the Bears a 1-0
win. The Commodores now have lost eight games in a row, and
slips to 2-14 and 0-7 in the MVC. The Bears improve to 5-10
overall and 3-3 in the conference.
Levesques goal came off a rebound following a blast
from right outside the Vanderbilt box from forward Ryan Crawford.
Goalkeeper Brad Winter made an outstanding save on the shot,
but Levesque was there for the rebound.
The Commodores hung tight throughout the game, but were outshot
by a 21-3 margin. Vanderbilt was only able to register two
shots in the first half and one in the second. The Bears were
on the offense for the majority of the game, but were not
able to slip one by Winter, who played exceptionally in net
for the Commodores.
Winter just missed out on his first shutout of the season,
as he finished with nine saves on the night. The senior made
several crucial saves throughout the game, but was not able
to close the game out.
Vanderbilt returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it takes
on MVC-rival Evansville at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
Prior to the start of Sundays game, the mens soccer
team will be honoring its 10 seniors.
