Men's Soccer Falls in MVC Action to Creighton, 4-0

OMAHA,
Neb. - The Vanderbilt men's soccer team dropped its fifth-consecutive
game on Sunday afternoon, as it fell to Missouri Valley Conference
power Creighton 4-0 at Tranquility Park. With the loss, the
Commodores fall to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in the MVC, while
Bluejays up their record to 7-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the
conference.
The Bluejays posted two goals in both halfs on Sunday afternoon.
Forward Mike Tranchilla had a big afternoon for Creighton,
as he scored two goals on the afternoon. His first goal came
a mere 57 seconds into the game, when he scored off a cross
from midfielder Luiz Del Monte.
Midfielder Brett Rodriguez put the Bluejays up 2-0 in the
20th minute, when he buried a shot into the left corner of
the net following a cross from defender David Wagenfuhr.
Wagenfuhr was involved in Creighton's third goal of the afternoon,
when he served the ball into the box off a corner kick, which
midfielder Damien Westfield headed into the back of the net.
Tranchilla's second goal came in the 73rd minute, when he
scored on a penalty kick.
For the game, Creighton outshot Vanderbilt by an astonishing
25-3 mark. All three of the Commodores' shots came in the
second half. Vanderbilt was issued 24 fouls and given four
yellow cards on the afternoon.
Vanderbilt continues its roadtrip at 7:35 p.m. Friday, October
18, when it takes on Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. The Commodores
conclude their trip at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, against
MVC and national power Southern Methodist in Dallas.
