Mens Soccer Drops Contest to Brown, 5-1 9/22/02

HAVEN, Conn. - Despite scoring the opening goal of the contest,
the Vanderbilt mens soccer team fell to Brown University
5-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Yale/Campus Customs Soccer
Classic. With the loss, Vanderbilt moves its overall record
to 1-6, while Brown moves to 2-1-1.
Midfielder Jack Hartley gave the Commodores a 1-0 lead in
the 21st minute when he scored his first goal of the season
and of his career.
Following Hartleys goal, the Bears would scored five
goals over the next 50 minutes en route to their victory.
The Bears scored only one goal in the first half, but recorded
four in the second half. Adam Crew led the Bears with two
goals on the afternoon, which came on his only two shots of
the game. Crews first goal came 51 seconds into the
second half off of an assist from Keith Caldwell. Crew struck
15 minutes later following an assist from Ibranim Diane. Daine
also had a solid game for Brown, as he tallied one goal and
two assists.
Brown outshot Vanderbilt 13-10 for the contest. Defender Josh
White and forward Danny Sable both registered two shots apiece
for the Commodores.
Midfielder Jeff Baker and Steve Chromik were both named to
the Yale/Campus Customs Soccer Classic All-Tournament team.
Vanderbilt will look to get back on the winning track at 7
p.m. Friday, September 27, against cross-town foe Lipscomb
in Nashville. The game will be held on the campus of Lipscomb.
