Mens Soccer Falls To No. 21-Ranked Yale, 3-1

HAVEN, Conn. - The Vanderbilt mens soccer team dropped
its fifth-consecutive game on Friday night when it lost to
No. 21-ranked Yale University 3-1 on the opening night of
the Yale/Campus Custom Soccer Classic at the Yale Soccer/Lacrosse
Stadium. With the loss, the Commodores fall to 1-5 on the
season, while the Bulldogs keep their undefeated streak alive
at 3-0.
Lindsey Williams scored the first of his two goals on the
evening at the six minute mark of the first half when he received
a pass from Jay Alberts and slid the ball past Vanderbilt
goalkeeper Matthew Gotterer. The Commodores struck back in
the 17th minute when midfielder Jeff Baker scored his first
goal of the season following an assist from forward Charlie
White.
Despite being outshot 8-3 at the conclusion of the first half,
the Commodores and Bulldogs went into the second half tied
at 1-1. Williams struck again in the 58th minute when he scored
on Gotterer following another assist from Alberts. Yale put
the game out of reach in the 62nd minute when Shannon Brooks
was on the receiving end of an assist from Williams. On top
of the five points Williams registered, he also had four shots.
The Commodores were outshot by the Bulldogs 20-12 for the
game. Baker led Vanderbilt with three shots, while Gotterer
finished with six saves in net.
Vanderbilt will look to rebound at 12 p.m. (EST) Sunday when
it takes on another Ivy League opponent in Brown University.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
