Vanderbilt vs. Georgia
January 29, 2003
Memorial Gymnasium
Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings
"Obviously, we are happy to get back on the left side
of the ledge after an extended absence from it. I thought
both teams really fought hard and played well. I was proud
of our team for the fight they showed. Georgia is an awfully
difficult team to cover. They are a lot like Florida in that
they have great offensive players in that they are very difficult
to cover."
"I thought (Matt) Freije was dominant in the first half
and made some big baskets for us in the second half. He kind
of set the pace for us. He and (Brian) Thornton have had a
real good look the last few days in practice for us and it
looked like it tonight."
"(Scott) Hundley was once again big for us again. He
obviously gave us some big minutes and some big plays, but
it was a team thing. Our guys played well and competed hard.
I'm happy for them they one."
Vanderbilt forward Scott Hundley
"You always expect a run late, especially by that team.
They are a great team, and they can shoot the ball. We tried
to focus on Jarvis (Hayes) and Ezra (Williams) to try and
keep the ball out of their hands, and (Rashad) Wright did
a great job of taking the ball to the basket and making plays
for them (Georgia)."
Vanderbilt forward Matt Freije
"Everybody played their part on offense. Everybody cut,
screened and made their shots. Guys were driving to the basket
and making plays."
"We played tougher tonight. Previous games leading up
to tonight we really didn't. We worked hard at practice this
week. We had a week off and it paid off for us today in the
game."
Vanderbilt guard Mario Moore
On Starting Wednesday's game:
"Not much. I feel I can do the same thing coming off
the bench. It's all a mental thing. If I get the chance to
play, I am going to do what coach (Stallings) asks me to and
what my talents allow me to do."
Georgia Head Coach Jim Harrick
"Vanderbilt played great tonight. They deserved to win.
They scored 94 points. No one else has done that against us.
They played very well."
On Matt Freije:
"Matt Freije was magnificent. I thought (Damien) Wilkins
did a good job guarding him. No one else did. (Freije) is
a good player."
