5/26/03
STILLWATER,
Okla. -Vanderbilt's Brandt Snedeker won both his singles
and doubles matches as the East team defeated the West,
17-10, in the East vs. West All-Star Matches at the NCAA
Championship.
Snedeker, participating in his second consecutive NCAA
Championship, defeated Southern California's David Oh, 2-up,
in his singles match. The senior from Nashville, Tenn.,
then teamed with Minnesota's Wilhelm Schauman to win, 2
and 1, in their doubles match against Oh and Texas' J.J.
Wall.
The East squad claimed 11 of the 18 singles matches and
five of the nine four-ball matches.
The East vs. West competition consisted of 18 singles and
four-ball matches at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.,
in conjunction with the 2003 Division I Men's Golf Championship.
Each match was worth one point for the winning team with
halved matches earning one-half point for each side.
Snedeker and the rest of the Commodores now turn their
attention toward the school's first ever appearance in the
NCAA Championship. Vanderbilt begins its run to the national
title Tuesday with the first of four rounds.
