Snedeker Wins Second Consecutive Tournament
Title
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt's Brandt Snedeker claimed
his second consecutive tournament title Tuesday, while the
Commodores finished in sixth place as a team with a three-under-par
score of 573 at the weather-shortened Gary Koch/Cleveland
Golf Invitational. The 15-team Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Invitational
was played on the par-72, 7,028-yard Old Memorial Golf Course
in Tampa, Fla.
Lightning forced the teams to suspend play during the second
round Monday and then after completing the second round Tuesday,
the final round was cancelled due to bad weather.
Snedeker, who actually tied with Ohio State's Zach Doran for
medalist honors, entered the final round in a tie for second
place after firing an opening-round four-under-par score of
68. He then came out on fire in the final round, carding a
five-under-par score of 67 to finish the tournament at nine-under-par
with a two-round score of 135. The tie for first-place could
not be broken in a playoff because of the cancellation of
the third round.
Snedeker, who moved up to No. 5 in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin
poll, has now recorded below-par scores in seven of eight
rounds this season and has been in the 60s in six of those
eight rounds.
The Commodores, who moved up to No. 5 in this week's Golfweek/Sagarin
team poll, finished Monday's first round in a tie for sixth
place with a two-under-par score of 286. Vanderbilt then came
back with another solid second round, posting a team score
of one-under-par 287. The Commodores finished just two shots
out of fourth place and only nine shots out of the top spot.
Other Commodore finishers included senior Craig Dunlap (T38,
146), sophomore Lance Goodson (T42, 147), sophomore Ben McClung
(T47, 148) and sophomore Mark Donnell (58, 151).
The Vanderbilt men's golf team is back in action Monday
and Tuesday at the Tennessee Tournament of Champions in Knoxville,
Tenn.
