Men's Golf Finishes 12th at SEC Championships

Opelika, Ala. -- the men's golf team completed its 1996-97 season this afternoon, in the final round of the SEC Championship at the par-72 Grand National Golf Links Lake Course. The team finished twelfth of twelve teams, firing a three-round score of 971. Mississippi State defended its 1996 team championship winning by just one shot over host Auburn.

Individually for the Commodores, Chad Jacobi ties his season low by carding a 70 of Sunday afternoon. Jacobi finished tied for 49th with a three-day total of 237. Freshman John Pitt finished 57th with a score fo 247. Fellow frosh Andy Phipps was 58th with a final card of 249. Sophomore Jamie McIntosh struggled in the first round, but was able to recover to shoot a 250, for 59th and freshman C.T. Steckel was 60th with a score of 251.
