Vanderbilt Places Seven Golfers on SEC Academic Honor Roll

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt men's and women's golf programs combined to place seven team members on the 2000 SEC Academic Honor Roll, it was announced Thursday by SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer.

The Commodore men had four of their own recognized. Included in the group were senior Andy Bowers, junior Ryan Grant, senior Andy Phipps and junior Jeff Yeckes.

The women's squad had three team members make the SEC list. Included in that group were junior Katie Murinas, senior Julie Sabo and sophomore Meredith Ward.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average or higher for either the past year (two semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and 3) have 24 semesters or 36 quarter hours toward a degree.

The Vanderbilt men's golf team will be in Killen, Ala., this weekend to compete in the SEC Men's Golf Championship. The Commodore women's golf team will be in Rogers, Ark., this weekend to compete in the SEC Women's Golf Championship.
