March 4, 1997

The Vanderbilt men's and women's golf teams competed over the weekend with mixed results for the two teams.

The Women's team traveled to Charleston to defend the school's only team tournament title, the College of Charleston Invitational. Led by senior Lesley Henderson, who finished second in the overall individual standings at 5 over par, Vanderbilt placed third in the field of fourteen with a score of 643, 59 over par. As a team, the Commodores have not placed lower than fourth this year. Individually, all five Commodores finished in the top 42 out of 77. Led by Henderson's 2nd place finish, three other Commodores finished in the top 25: Mallory Crosland (T7th +12), Elise Kimm (T14th +17), Jamie Russell (T 23rd +23). Senior Andi Bullock finished tied for 38th (+29) and freshman Julie Sabo finished tied for 42nd (+31) on the par 73 course (36 holes).

The Commodores will stay in South Carolina for the Fripp Island/Ben Hogan Classic this coming weekend, March 7-9.

The men's team, however, did not fare as well in Bay St. Louis, Miss. at the Bridges All-America Tournament. The Commodores finished 19th out of 20 teams in the tournament, scoring a 948 on the par 72 (54 hole) course, (+84). Sophomore Jamie McIntosh led the Commodores with a 19th place finish (229, +13).
