Women's Cross Country Picked To Finish Fifth in SEC; Men To Finish 10th 8/23/02

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 2002 SEC Cross Country Preseason Coaches' poll has been released and the Vanderbilt women's team is among the top five contending for the title of SEC Champs. The Vanderbilt men's team was picked to finish 10th by the league's coaches.

Arkansas led the preseason picks, selected to win both the men's and the women's titles in 2002. With both the Arkansas men's and women's teams bringing home SEC titles last year, they look to continue their reign of the SEC. The Razorback men have won 11 straight SEC championships, while the Arkansas women have won nine titles in their history.

Points from the men's poll were awarded on a 9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis while the women's was awarded on an 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

The Vanderbilt cross country season begins September 6 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Belmont Opener, hosted by Belmont University. Florida will host the SEC Championships October 26 in Gainsville, Fla.
