The Vanderbilt Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed at the
rain-soaked Lambert Acres Golf Club Saturday morning in Knoxville, TN for the
NCAA Pre-Regionals. The University of Tennessee women's cross country team
claimed it’s program's first regional or district title since 1983. On the
men’s side, Tennessee claimed first place honors as well, placing ahead of
Alabama, who entered the race as the heavy favorite. Vicky Gill from Florida
State (21:03) and David Kimani of Alabama (32:09) earned the individual
honors.

The Commodore Women claimed ninth place with 226 team points. Freshman
Erika Schneble crossed the finish line first for Vanderbilt for a ninth place
finish (22:43) good enough to earn All-South Regional honors, which go to the
top 25 competitors. Junior Jocelyn Theriault (23:01) finished 26th, just
missing All-South Regionals honors. Finishing out Vanderbilt’s scoring was
sophomore Nadiyah Humber (64, 24:14), freshman Jackie Wachsman (68, 24:23) and freshman Courtney Shaughnessy (70, 24:28). Also finishing for Vanderbilt was sophomore Angeline Cione (89, 25:09) and junior Marlena Justak (95, 25:26).

The Commodore Men finished 14th with 441 points. Junior John Cote led
the pack of Vanderbilt harriers placing 91st (35:45). Freshman Tyler Harlan
finished 93rd (35:47), senior Ryan Williams came in 95th (35:55), sophomore
Mike Gaske placed 100th (36:28) and senior David Brogan finished 115th (37:54) to round up Vanderbilt’s scoring. Also competing for Vanderbilt was sophomore Taylor Hindle (127, 39:26) and freshman Jake Lamanna (128, 39:38).

The NCAA championships will be November 25 at Indiana State. Thirteen
teams and two individuals will be selected at large November 18 on both the
men’s and the women’s side.
