Megan Lewis Named Third Team All-American 5/20/02
Durham,
North Carolina -- The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches'
Association and US Lacrosse announced the All-America teams
for the 2002 season, which marks the first year that the two
organizations have joined efforts in promoting the accomplishments
of student-athletes on the lacrosse field. The awards are
sponsored by Brine Lacrosse, Inc.
Vanderbilt University's Megan Lewis was named a third-team
national All-American. This honor joins a long list of accomplishments
for Lewis, a senior defender from Edgewater, Maryland. After
being named a second-team South Region All-American last season,
Lewis earned first-team honors this year. She was also named
to the inaugural American Lacrosse Conference All-Conference
team.
Lewis has been the backbone of the Commodore defense as a
four-year starter at Vanderbilt. A 2002 tri-captain, Lewis
led the Commodores in caused turnovers this season for the
third year in a row. She also led the team in ground balls
for the second time in three years.
NCAA Division I champion Princeton placed three athletes
on the first team, while runner-up Georgetown and semifinalist
UNC both had two honorees. ACC regular-season champion Virginia
had two first-team selections, as did CAA regular-season champion
Loyola.
