Ashley Bastinelli Named ALC Player of the Week 3/5/02
Vanderbilt
freshman Ashley Bastinelli (Lutherville, Maryland) was named
the Player-of-the-Week Tuesday by the American Lacrosse Conference.
In her first two collegiate starts, Bastinelli made 27 saves
while allowing only ten goals for an impressive save percentage
of 73 percent. She led the Commodores to upset victories over
conference rivals Johns Hopkins and Penn State.
Bastinelli played high school lacrosse at the Friends School
of Baltimore, where she was a four year letterwinner. She
is the first ever Player-of-the-Week in the American Lacrosse
Conference, which began play this spring.
"I was extremely surprised and honored. I feel very fortunate
to be apart of such a hard-working and supportive team,"
said Bastinelli. "I think we have a bright future ahead
of us and hope I can continue to contribute to our success."
"Ashley's honor is well-deserved," added Vanderbilt
Head Coach Cathy Swezey. "She is just beginning what
I expect will be a very successful career at Vanderbilt."
