Vanderbilt
Lacrosse Falls to Cornell 14-6 4/7/03
The Vanderbilt Lacrosse team would suffer another tough
loss this weekend, as
they fell in their competition to the Big Reds of Cornell
University in Ithaca,
NY.
Coming off of the largest win in school history against
Duke last week, the
Commodores were looking for their first overall winning
record of the season.
With this loss, Vanderbilt's record moves to 4-5 overall,
and 1-2 in the ALC.
With strong defenses on both sides of the ball, it
was clear that this contest
would be about possessions. Winning the first draw of
the match, the Commodores would score the first goal
in under 45 seconds. But the Big Red defense would rebound
to take the lead, 8-4, at the end of the first period.
Cornell's offense would continue to dominate throughout
the second period as well, possessing the ball much
more frequently than Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt would notr recover this deficit for the
rest of the contest. Scorers
for the Commodores included, Kelly Devlin (2), Lauren
Peck (2), Mary McCeney
(1), and Tara Schmucker (1).
The next match-up for the Commodores will be at home
in Nashville, Saturday,
April 12 at 1:00pm against UNC. |
