Vanderbilt Defeats Davidson
Davidson,
N.C. -- The eighth ranked Vanderbilt Commodores (8-3, 4-0)
overcame a slow start against the Davidson Wildcats (5-8,
0-2) to pull out an 11-10 victory in Sunday's American Lacrosse
Conference matchup. The Vanderbilt attack, led by sophomore
Jess Roguski's hat-trick, had to fight for everything against
a Davidson defense which earned six cards in the game.
The Wildcats got out of the gate quickly, scoring the first
three goals of the game. The Commodores answered, with junior
Jeannie Crawley scoring a goal for the fifteenth consecutive
game, but would trail for much of the first stanza.
After a 7-6 halftime deficit, the Commodores took their first
lead at the 41:38 mark on a free position goal by sophomore
Mary McCeney. The Vanderbilt defense tightened up in the last
thirty minutes, allowing only three goals. Freshman goalkeeper
Ashley Bastinelli had four of her seven saves the second half.
Crawley, McCeney and sophomore Michelle Allen each scored
twice for the Commodores. Junior Tara Schmucker caused three
turnovers and added four ground balls to lead the Commodore
defense, while also scoring for the sixth straight game.
The Commodores return home next Sunday, April 21st, when they
host the Ohio State Buckeyes in American Lacrosse Conference
action.
