The
#11 Vanderbilt Commodores (4-2) defeated the New Hampshire
Wildcats (2-3) by a score of 9-5 in NCAA women's lacrosse
action Wednesday afternoon. The Commodores were led by senior
Liz Drennan's career-high four assists, three of which were
on goals by junior Jeannie Crawley.
The Commodores got out of the gate quickly, building a four
goal lead in the opening 13 minutes of the game behind two
goals each from Crawley and fellow sophomore Kelly Devlin.
New Hampshire pulled with two goals and the game went to halftime
with the Commodores up 5-3.
In the second half, the Wildcats struck first when Jessie
Groszkowski scored her second of three goals in the game.
The Commodores answered with a trio of goals by sophomore
Jess Roguski (2) and junior Tara Schmucker (1). Senior Kinsey
Osberg closed out the scoring in the 54th minute to give the
Commodores the 9-5 victory.
Crawley's hat-trick was her third of the season. She has scored
a goal for the Commodores in every game so far this year.
Vanderbilt outshot New Hampshire by a mark of 30 to 16, thanks
in part to a tough defensive effort led by Schmucker (5 GBs,
3 CTs) and senior Megan Lewis (3 GBs, 3CTs).
"We were very fired up to play well today," said
Lewis. "We felt we had to outhustle [New Hampshire] for
sixty minutes. We came out today very motivated, out for revenge,
and we played hard for the whole game."
Vanderbilt continues their current homestand on Sunday, March
24 at 1 p.m. against Brown.
