#17 Commodores Tough in Loss to #4 Cavaliers
April 11, 1999
Caroline Mans tied a career high with four points, including three goals, and Emily Lough made a career high 20 saves, as VU hung tough but ultimately fell to the #4 Virginia Cavaliers 13-9 in Charlottesville on Sunday afternoon.
VU led 2-1 at the 26:05 mark of the first half, as Mans and April Tellam each tallied early goals. The lead did not last long, however, as UVA ran off four straight goals, two by Jamie Haas, to take a 5-2 lead. UVA would take a 9-5 lead into halftime, and then got the first two goals of the second half within the first two and a half minutes of the frame, and despite a late Commodore charge, held on for the 13-9 win.
Tellam and Amanda Rice each posted two goals, Kristin Ehst notched a goal and an assist, and Kinsey Osberg scored a goal for Vandy (4-7). Becky Kehl and Andrea Legath were each credited with an assist on the day.
The Commodores will host Notre Dame (8-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Nashville. First draw is set for 3 p.m. Central time.
