Stricker Ends Career Among Top Receivers in SEC History
Dan Stricker caught two passes for 12 yards against Tennessee.
He ends his career with 2,880 receiving yards, fifth all-time
in the Southeastern Conference, moving past Arkansas' Anthony
Lucas (2,879). His 184 career receptions ranks sixth all-time
in the league. He also concluded his career with at least
one reception in his final 34 games.
Hillenmeyer Continues Tackle Streak
Commodore linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer finished the game
with 15 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss and a pass
break up. It was the 11th game this season he recorded 10
or more tackles.
Noting the Commodore Backfield
Clark Lea and Lorenzo Parker's appearance in the backfield
against Tennessee marked the ninth and 10th running backs
to see action this action this season for the Commodores.
The list includes three starting tailbacks Ronald Hatcher,
Norval McKenzie, and Kwane Doster, and reserve tailbacks Jason
Bourque and and Parker. Fullbacks to action this season are
Bara Cola, Matthew Tant, Joan Rojas and Zeke Brandon.
Vanderbilt leading rusher during the season, Kwane Doster
(160 rushes for 798 yards) did not see action after suffering
a high ankle sprain last week against Kentucky. Tant set season-highs
in rushing attempts (13) and yardage (70) in the backfield
against the Volunteers.
General Notes
Vanderbilt punter Greg Johnson's first punt of the game with
13:45 remaining in the first quarter registered 53 yards.
It marked the 11th game of the season Johnson has registered
a punt for 50 or more yards
Nick Getter's 33-yard reception
of a Benji Walker pass late in the second quarter was a career
long for the tight end. It also marked the long pass play
from Walker during the 2002 season
Vanderbilt allowed
a safety with 1:24 remaining in the first quarter, giving
Tennessee a 9-0 lead. It was the first safety allowed by the
Commodores since Vanderbilt's 46-14 loss at South Carolina
(10/20/01)
Benji Walker took the field at the 11:39
mark of the second quarter. It marked Walker's first appearance
since he saw action at home against Middle Tennessee (10/12/02)
Vanderbilt took the field wearing a gold-on-gold jersey combination
for the first team since Nov. 27, 1982 vs. Tennessee. The
game concluded in a 28-21 Commodore victory - Vanderbilt's
last win in the series.
