Florida wins the toss and elects to receive; VU will defend the south goal

" Lorenzo Parker earned his first start of the season. He started seven games in 2001.
" Brandon's Smith 65-yard punt return was his first of the season and is a season long. The previous season long was 31 yards by Erik Davis vs. Connecticut on Oct. 26. The last time a Commodore ran a punt back for 65 yards was Sept. 11, 1999, when Jimmy Williams did it vs. Northern Illinois for a game-winning touchdown. Prior to that, Alvin Duke ran a punt back for 88 yards for a touchdown vs. Alabama on Sept. 14, 1996.
" Dan Stricker has now caught a pass in 32 consecutive games. He is now in 10th place on the SEC All-Time Career Reception List with 174. He surpassed Carlos Alvarez of Florida who totaled 172 receptions.
" On the first play of the second half, Kwane Doster became the Vanderbilt All-Time Freshman rushing leader. He now totals 687 yards. He surpassed Carl Woods who totaled 644 in 1983.
" Vanderbilt's 15-play scoring drive matches a season long. VU had a 15-play scoring drive vs. Middle Tennessee. The 7:30 also marked the longest scoring drive of the season. The previous long was 7:15 on the same 15-play drive vs. Middle Tennessee.
" With his 63-yard punt in the fourth quarter, Greg Johnson has had a punt over 50 yards in nine of VU's 10 games. He entered the game fifth in the nation with a 43.9 yard average. Johnson is now 8-12 in field goals this season. He hit a 40-yarder in the game.
