SEC Recommends Security/Safety
Measures 9/4/02
The Southeastern Conference has made recommendations to its
members concerning security and safety measures for all football
games. Of particular impact at Vanderbilt is the SEC's recommendation
that all public streets within 150 yards of Vanderbilt Stadium
be closed to traffic during the course of a game day. To accommodate
these requests, Vanderbilt Athletics, in conjunction with
VUPD, Metro Police and Metro Public Works, has put in place
the following measures:
* Jess Neely Drive, between 25th Avenue and Natchez Trace,
will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning 6 hours prior
to kick-off and ending approximately 1 hour after the end
of the game.
* Natchez Trace, between Dudley Avenue and West End, will
be closed to vehicle traffic beginning 6 hours prior to kick-off
and ending approximately 1 hour after the end of the game
* Kensington Place, between 25th Avenue and Natchez Trace,
will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning 2 hours prior
to kick-off and ending approximately 1 hour after the end
of the game
* VUPD, in conjunction with Metro Police, will manage all
traffic signals and intersections to assist with ingress,
traffic flow and egress after the game.
* VUPD, working with Metro Police, will monitor game day
street parking in the neighborhoods adjacent to Vanderbilt's
campus
A map is attached to this document to illustrate the street
closures and different avenues for traffic ingress and egress.
In addition, the following security measures and recommendations
have been made:
* Fans should not bring backpacks, coolers or any large bags
into the stadium. Those who do will be required to open them
for inspection at designated gates.
* Additional university police and event staff will be on
hand to provide security at entrances and around the stadium.
* Fans are encouraged to arrive early because of expected
delays.
* Fans are encouraged to report any unusual activity.
* Prohibited items include: weapons, alcohol, video cameras,
glass or cans, Thermoses in excess of two quarts, picnic baskets,
ice chests, horns of any kind, unauthorized merchandise, flags
or banners, signs on sticks or placards and leaflets not approved
by the university.
