An enthusiastic crowd of 575
Commodore faithful turned out to hear Kevin Stallings, Melanie
Balcomb and Bobby Johnson speak at the National Commodore
Club Barbecue Tuesday evening.
The event was designed for fans
to meet and greet the Vanderbilt athletics staff and hear
first-hand of recent happenings. A large number of Commodore
staff not on the program was also in attendance.
Speakers gave a brief update
of their team’s recent news along with a general forecast
for the season.
Balcomb, hired less than a month
ago as women’s basketball coach, discussed her observations
as a newcomer to the program - including the home court advantage
the Commodores have with their vocal fan support.
Johnson, who will be coaching
his first Vanderbilt football team this fall, updated fans
on his squad’s summer activity and mentioned how improving
football facilities are aiding his program.
Master of Ceremonies Joe Fisher
ran through a list of individual and team accomplishments
for the 2001-02 year.
The barbecue was free to NCC
members and was catered by McConnell’s, one of Nashville’s
finest caterers.
