TEN COMMODORE PLAYERS RESIDE IN ALABAMA Ten Commodores hail from Alabama, including DT Brett Beard of Vestavia, TB Ronald Hatcher of Birmingham, and kicker Abtin Iranmanesh of Madison.

BROTHER OF FORMER VU QB ON AUBURN ROSTER The brother of former Commodore QB David Wallace will see action Saturday at tight end for the Auburn Tigers. Cooper Wallace, a redshirt freshman from Nashville’s Christ Presbyterian Academy, caught a 17-yard TD pass in Auburn’s win over Western Carolina last week.

TEAM NOTES FROM VANDERBILT-FURMAN GAME

  • The 49 points scored by Vanderbilt was the most since Oct. 9, 1999 when the Commodores defeated The Citadel.
  • The Commodores rushed for 344 yards on 42 carries (8.2 yard avg.), the most by a Vanderbilt squad since Oct. 15, 1994 when the ‘Dores ran for 415 yards in a 43-30 road win at Georgia.
  • For the first time since the 2001 season opener against MTSU, the Commodores were able to put 28 points on the scoreboard in the first half.
  • The 31-point winning margin over Furman was the highest since the 58-0 victory over The Citadel (10/9/1999). Excluding The Citadel game, the last time Vanderbilt won by at least 31 points was Nov. 13, 1993 (41-7 over Navy).
  • Vanderbilt scored five rushing TDs (three by QB Jay Cutler and scores by TB Norval McKenzie and FB Bara Cola). The last time Vanderbilt scored at least five rushing TDs was against The Citadel on Oct. 9, 1999.
  • In the win over Furman, Vanderbilt amassed 26 first downs, the most since Nov. 25, 2000, when the Commodores posted 29 first downs in a 28-26 loss to Tennessee in Nashville.
  • The Vanderbilt defense forced three turnovers with fumble recoveries, the most since the Commodores recovered four Notre Dame fumbles in a 14-7 opening season loss in 1996.
