Caldwell

Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach

Caldwell, a 25-year collegiate coaching veteran
who most recently served at the University of North Carolina,
will serve as Vanderbilt’s assistant head coach and tutor
offensive linemen.
Caldwell, 48, served the last two years as
offensive line coach at UNC. Previous to the UNC stint, Caldwell
served 14 years at North Carolina State and eight years at
Furman.
At NC State, Caldwell tutored the offensive
line for 11 years, then had the added responsibility of assistant
head coach from 1997-99. Caldwell coached 14 All-ACC lineman
for the Wolfpack, and helped guide six of the top 10 total
offenses in North Carolina State history.
Prior to joining the NC State staff, Caldwell
coached the offensive line at Furman from 1978-85, and served
the university as a graduate assistant in 1976. He coached
high school football and baseball at Hanahan, S.C. in 1977.
At Furman, Caldwell coached six Southern
Conference championship teams, including the national runnerup
in 1985. Eight of his pupils at Furman were named first-team
All-Southern Conference, and five captured the conference’s
Jacobs Blocking Award during his tenure.
Caldwell, a native of Pageland, South Carolina,
was a three-year letterman at center for Furman, and was named
the team’s MVP in 1975. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree
in health and physical education in 1976.
Caldwell is married to the former Nora Lynn
Lassister of Arlington, Va. They are the parents of a daughter,
Emsley, 7.
