Women's Cross Country Claims Title at Kickoff Classic September 3, 1999
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Vanderbilt women's cross country team posted a score 20 points to start the 1999 season with a first-place finish at the Belmont Kickoff Classic in Nashville, Tenn. The Commodores placed five runners in the top seven and all seven runners in the top 11. Beth Van Dusen led the way with a time of 11:16 in the two-mile event to claim medalist honors for the first time in her career. Freshman Kristin Jumer, running in her first collegiate meet, took second place with a time of 11:25. On the men's side, Vanderbilt placed second with 52 points. Michael Brookshire was the team leader, running the three-mile event in a time of 16:17 to take sixth place. He was followed by Nitin Jhamb, who in his first meet finished eighth with a time of 16:28. Both teams are back in action September 18 when they play host to the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.
