Shine in Cape Cod League All-Star Weekend 7/28/03
FALMOUTH, Mass - Two Vanderbilt baseball players were among
the brightest stars at the Cape Cod League All-Star weekend.
Ryan
Klosterman's two-out single in the ninth-inning loaded the
bases Saturday and set up the game-winning hit for the East,
which won 3-1. The East entered the inning trailing 1-0, but
a leadoff single followed by a double two outs later tied
the score. Klosterman got his chance when the batter before
him, Chris Malec, drew a walk, which puts runners on first
and second. Klosterman singled to right to load the bases,
and the next batter, Sean Gamble, drove in two runs with another
hit.
A
day earlier Cesar Nicolas won the home run derby with a dominant
display and he did it the hard way. Nicolas launched 13 home
runs in the final round and pushed his total for the event
to 22. He earned his way into the finals when he hit four
home runs while down to his final out and scored a 9-7 victory
over Chris Carter. The majority of Nicolas' home runs were
over the center field fence at Guv Fuller Field, 390 feet
away. He also easily recorded the longest blast of the day
when he sent one over an exterior fence beyond the left field
wall.
