Commodores Start Five-Game Road Trip Wednesday at
Western Kentucky Vanderbilt hits the road for a five-game
road trip beginning this Wednesday at Western Kentucky. After
ending a season-long four game losing streak Sunday by topping
Arkansas 4-3, the Commodores will face two talented squad
this week in Western Kentucky and No. 11 Ole Miss. The two
teams combine for a 39-15 overall record this season. Western
Kentucky has won 16 of its last 21 games and is 3-2 in early
play in the Sun Belt Conference. The Hilltoppers are led offensively
by Antone Towns (.400, 18 H, 6 RBI) and Jeff Pacholke (.358,
19 H, 9 RBI). Matt Wilhite (4-0, 1.12 ERA, 12 AP) and Ryan
Biconda (3-2, 3.43 ERA) led the pitching staff.
The Ole Miss Series Vanderbilt leads 35-33-2 in the
all-time series dating back to 1900.The Rebels took two of
three from Vanderbilt in last year’s series in Nashville (17-6,
9-8, 7-3). Ole Miss has won eight of the last 12 in the series.Vanderbilt’s
last series win came in 1997 when the Commodores swept the
Rebels in Nashville. Vanderbilt’s last series win in Oxford
came in 1996 (1-4, 8-6, 6-2).
Dore Data Vanderbilt is 13-0 when it has the lead
after the sixth inning... Karl Nonemaker has played in 103
consecutive games without committing an error (at Troy State
3/3/2000)... Nonemaker (639) and Sean Luellwitz (636) will
enter VU’s all-time top 10 list for career at bats this week.
Luellwitz (52) needs three doubles to become VU’s all-time
leader (for complete listing see page 7)... VU batters have
struck out 186 times entering the week — tied for second most
in the league... VU pitchers have allowed 12 home runs this
season, the fewest in the SEC...Jeremy Sowers ranks second
in the conference with 20 batters struck out looking... Jeff
Little needs one more win to join the VU top 10 list for career
wins with 17.
