Message from the Chancellor

To our almost-alumni and their families: Vanderbilt simply cannot condense our joy in such an auspicious event as Commencement into a single day. To encompass the full spirit of our celebration, we hold activities across a span of three days, from music and dancing on Wednesday night all the way through to strawberries and champagne on that grand Commencement morning! Activities in honor of Commencement begin Wednesday night on Peabody lawn with big exuberant music and dance that energize all of us for the activities of the next day. The PARTY is extremely popular, and as it always features performances from acts that are internationally known, you will want to make sure to get your tickets as early as you can. Thursday is designated "Senior Class Day" to honor those receiving their undergraduate degrees. Thursday morning, after a procession of our graduating students out of the gates of Vanderbilt, almost-alumni will join their families on Alumni Lawn for an all-encompassing interfaith welcome featuring an address by a speaker of international renown. In the afternoon, Vanderbilt invites families to attend seminars presented by some of Vanderbilt’s most talented faculty members while their graduating students gather for a wild and fun last hurrah with me! Thursday evening is quieter, giving you time together as a family to take in the gifts and pleasures of Nashville as you see fit, before celebrating Commencement proper on Friday morning. I look forward to seeing you during those high days in May! Cordially, Gordon Gee
