Kindermusik Summer Adventures Classes
Sponsored by the Blair School of Music

Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University offers this nationally acclaimed music programfor children birth through age six. Turn an ordinary summer into an extraordinary journey with theme-based classes where your child will discover the joy of music, movement, dance, drama and craft-making. Each class meets5 timesand includes Home Materials—complete with CD, an instrument, and follow–up activities for enrichment at home.

Registration begins, April 6, 2009. Classes may not be pro-rated, full rate will be charged.

Busy Days!
This class incorporates the most current research on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music and movement. A unique blend of multi-level activities that include creative movement, vocal play, object and instrument exploration, as well as a colorful literature component, will stimulate your baby’s growth and development as all of his senses are engaged.
Ages: Newborn to 18 mos. with a parent or caregiver

Sign and Sing
A different approach from other sign language programs. Through songs, toys, and loving playtime between you and your child, this class shows you more than 50 signs your child can use to communicate with you. You’ll easily substitute American Sign Language (ASL) signs in familiar songs, improving your child’s language skills, fine motor skills, and strengthen fingers for zipping zippers and using scissors.
Ages: 6 months to 3 years with a parent or caregiver

Creatures at the Ocean
Children love singing, moving, and playing with Mom, Dad, or a caregiver while diving into lessons like Ahoy There, On My Beach Blanket, Coastal Waters, Riding the Waves, and In the Deep Blue Sea. Put on your beach clothes and join us for a musical seaside adventure.
Ages: 18 months to 3 years with a parent or caregiver

On the Road
Join Ms. Amy on a musical summer road trip. We’ll sing and dance as we pretend to hike, play in a vacation cottage, stop at the carnival and go to the beach – all guaranteed to be exciting adventures for young children! Your child will experience an integrated learning approach where music is interwoven with art, language, drama and storytelling. Parents join for the last 15 minutes.
Ages: 3 and 4 years
Dates: Wednesdays, June 10-July 8, 12:30 or Thursdays, June 11-July 9, 5:00 p.m.; 45-minute class for 5 weeks

Tell Me a Tale!
Each class features a different folk tale from around the world. Children will sing, dance, play instruments and make crafts as they explore each culture. This musical global journey will include South Africa, India, Malaysia, Germany, and Appalachia. Sure to be a memorable trip for your child without even leaving home! Parents join for the last 15 minutes.
Ages: 5 and 6 years

Kindermusik Family Time
Each week you’ll discover how music helps your family laugh together, share, and take turns...all in the hands of a trained expert—a licensed Kindermusik Educator—who takes you through this multi-age, multi-child class, where you’ll find musical and developmental learning in a fun, family environment!

Music Theory Without Fear!

Who said music theory has to give you a headache? Music theory can be fun, and this lively, interactive course for beginning theory students shows you how to read, write, and understand music theory without breaking into a sweat. This is the perfect course for aspiring singers, instrumentalists, composers, songwriters, and all who are passionate about music and want to acquire a solid grasp of music theory in a short period of time. From scales to chords to simple instrumental and choral arranging—this dynamic course teaches you everything you need to unlock the musical ideas in your head and get them down on paper using traditional and contemporary notation systems. No previous theory knowledge required. Excellent college preparation or review course!

Sarratt Youth Art Institute

The Sarratt Youth Art Institute offers opportunities for children from a variety of backgrounds to pursue their interest in art, to explore their creative abilities, to learn about the world they live in through the arts, and to gain self esteem through the process of creating original works of art.

The Sarratt Youth Art Institute offers three summer sessions that allow students, ages 5-16 the opportunity to learn through the arts. These two week sessions are designed to give students time and experience with art forms that allow them to be creative and to encourage their math, reading, and science education through an arts based curriculum design. Hours are 9-4, with before and aftercare available for an additional fee. Register before May 1 and receive a discount!
