Kindermusik Summer Adventures Classes
Sponsored by the Blair School of Music
Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University offers this nationally acclaimed music program for children birth through age five. Turn an ordinary summer into an extraordinary journey with theme-based classes where your child will discover the joy of music, movement, dance, drama and craft-making. Each class meets 5 times and includes Home Materials—complete with CD, an instrument, and follow–up activities for enrichment at home. Each Kindermusik class will run for five weeks. A make-up class will be available at the end of the summer session to accommodate vacations and busy summer schedules.
Peekaboo, I Love You!
This class incorporates the most current research on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music and movement. Delete this sentence: A unique blend of multi-level activities that includes creative movement, vocal play, object and instrument exploration, as well as a colorful literature component, will stimulate your baby’s growth and development as all of his senses are engaged. ADD: More than just a curious story, Mother Goose games like peek-a-boo help babies understand language. In this special class, uncover many ways to say “I love you” using American Sign Language, soap bubbles, and parent-baby dances!

Children love singing, moving, and playing with Mom, Dad, or a caregiver while diving into lessons like Ahoy There, On My Beach Blanket, Coastal Waters, Riding the Waves and In the Deep Blue Sea. Put on your beach clothes and join Ms. Amy for a musical seaside adventure.

Your toddler and the train make a natural match – always on the move. Bring your own stuffed animals for the petting zoo. Wear long white socks on your hands for polar bear pays. Sing songs for clapping time and use music to help toddlers regulate emotions. This one on one time will give your toddler the love and attention he/she craves.Ages: 2 to 3 1/2 years with a parent or caregiver

Join Ms. Amy as she throws a different musical party every day! Ride a carousel inside the classroom. Play a balancing game as you walk on a web of ropes. Learn colors in Spanish while singing De Colores. Enjoy a musical game of move and freeze. Your child will experience an integrated learning approach where music is interwoven with art, language, drama and storytelling.
HOME MATERIALS: CD, pair of confetti bell instruments, story kit, and 5 picture folders.

Music Theory Without Fear!
Sponsored by the Blair School of Music
Music theory can be fun, and this lively, interactive course for beginning theory students shows you how to read, write, and understand music theory without breaking into a sweat. This is the perfect course for aspiring singers, instrumentalists, composers, songwriters, and all who are passionate about music and want to acquire a solid grasp of music theory in a short period of time. Sarratt Youth Art Institute
Get creative at the Sarratt Youth Art Institute! Have fun exploring clay, painting, sculpture, architecture, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, textile arts, and the art of different cultures from around the world. Make new friends and learn about a wonderful world of art. Voted Best Kids Camp of Nashville 2012 in the Nashville Scene’s readers poll, we’re looking forward to another busy and creative summer of art.
For summer 2013 Sarratt Youth Art Institute will offer one week classes by age groups. Ages 8 – 16 will explore three or four studios each day during a session. Ages 5 – 7 will be explore clay and polymer clay (Sculpey) in our “Clay Camp-O-Rama or an exciting array of mediums in Nature Art and Crafts. Children are divided into groups of 10 – 12 based on their ages and enrollment. Please see the schedule below for studio offerings each week. At SYAI, our goal is to focus in on each technique and have a more productive and fun time in each studio.
This year’s theme is “What’s Inside/What’s Outside” and will be centered on an art exhibit in the Sarratt Gallery.
SYAI will meet at 208 24th Avenue which is conveniently located near the Sarratt Student Center. We’ll be using this space as a morning and afternoon drop off/pick up location, lunch area and as an additional studio classroom area. Many of our classes will be meeting in the clay, photography, and jewelry studios in Sarratt Student Center.
