5. Deadline:
The final date for submitting photos is February 1st 2010, 4:00 p.m. If at all possible, please do not leave submission of your entry until a day or two before the deadline. A large number of entrants trying to submit their photos just prior to deadline can cause technical problems which can leave them unable to enter.
6. Please note that photographs will not be returned. By signing the entry form and submitting it, entrants are agreeing to grant Vanderbilt University, Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and Vanderbilt International Office (VIO) use of the photographs in displays related to the contest and in other printed and electronic publications. Efforts will be made to credit the entrant where possible.
7. Entries will be judged on artistic expression, creativity, originality, and the quality of the image. All decisions of the judges are final. The contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries which do not conform to the stated contest rules and criteria. Winners may be contacted and asked for more information about the winning entries.
8. Digital Alterations:
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization will be disqualified. Acceptable are: removal of dust and scratches; cropping; black and white conversions. Not acceptable are photo composites (combination of two or more photos, not of the same scene); the addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in the photos; or the use of artistic digital filters and effects. Examples of artistic filters and effects are watercolor, neon glow, pasteurizing, stained glass, and others which do not show the scene in its natural way.
9. Award winners will be announced at a reception to take place in the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center in February 26th 2010, where the photos will be displayed. Photographs may be displayed in additional locations at other future events.
