*New!* LATIN AMERICAN VISITING RESOURCE PROFESSORSHIP
CLAS is pleased to announce a new program of LATIN AMERICAN VISITING RESOURCE PROFESSORS funded by a Vanderbilt Enhancing Graduate Education grant. This program will fund two distinguished Latin American scholars, politicians, or writers per year to come to Vanderbilt for approximately four weeks to participate in a graduate seminar, offer a non-credit special topic seminar, and to interact more widely with graduate students. Application deadline is April 10, 2008.

K'iche' Immersion Program
The University of Chicago Center for Latin American Studies, in partnership with Vanderbilt University’s Center for Latin American Studies, will offer a new summer intensive immersion language program in K'iche' Maya on site in Nahualá, Guatemala. The program will be offered from June 23-August 1, 2008. This is a FLAS-approved summer language program. Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS)
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the Center five Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships for Portuguese or a Latin American Indigenous Language in the amount of $670,000 for 2006-2010. These fellowships offer an academic year stipend of $15,000 and a tuition award of $12,000.
