In June 2007 the Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies conducted its first summer professional development institute, entitled “Mexico, Past and Present.” The institute, directed by Dr. Edward Wright-Rios, provided the teachers who participated with knowledge and experiences to share with their students. Participants consisted of nine middle and high school teachers, whose areas of expertise spanned a broad range within the various disciplines of Spanish, social studies, and science.
