WHAT IS VANDERBILT SPIRIT PROGRAM’S PRIMARY OBJECTIVE?

To serve as positive role models and ambassadors of Vanderbilt University and set standards for leadership, academic excellence, and project the goals and ideals of Vanderbilt University, while supporting student athletics!

WHAT ARE THE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS?

We do not have specific height and weight requirements. Personal Health and Fitness are an important aspect of the program. Weight and Body fat tests will be performed throughout the season and results will be monitored by athletic trainer, team physician, and/or nutritionist.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO TRYOUTS/AUDITIONS?

Dance – It is suggested that you wear two-piece dance attire which may include;

  1. Top – dance midriff or athletic sports bra

  2. Bottoms – jazz pants or spandex shorts. Skin colored tights are optional.

  3. Dance shoes are mandatory.

Cheerleading – There is no mandatory attire. All participants must look COLLEGIATE!!

  1. NO attire from any other University

  2. Appearance is judged so make-up, half up hair, cheerleading bow, and form fitting clothes are highly encouraged!

Do Cheerleaders, Dancers, and mascots receive any type of scholarships?

Yes, Cheerleaders, Dancers, and Mascots will receive a monthly stipend that will be distributed each month by the Spirit Coordinator. In the event that a spirit member is removed, dismissed, or voluntarily leaves the program, the current scholarship will be canceled. Spirit members must participate in all aspects of program and abide by the Spirit Program contract to receive their stipend.

What are the academic requirements?

Spirit Members must maintain a 2.2 cumulative GPA and remain a full time student making satisfactory progress toward degree completion.

WHAT SPORTING EVENTS ARE SPIRIT MEMBERS REQUIRED TO ATTEND?

All Spirit Members will be required to attend all home football games and home Men’s and Women’s basketball games. In addition to home games, Spirit Members will also attend Football Bowl Games, Men’s and Women’s SEC Basketball Tournaments, Men’s and Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournaments, and several non-athletic appearances upon request.

Select member of the cheerleading team will also travel to all away football games. It is possible that some members of the dance team will also travel to select away football games. All decisions on traveling will be made by the Spirit Coordinator.

HOW OFTEN DO SPIRIT MEMBERS PRACTICE?

Both Cheer and Dance will practice a minimum of three times per week. Practices will last a minimum of two hours per practice. In addition to practice hours, spirit members will also participate in bi-weekly workouts with a strength and conditioning coach.
