Students must meet with their faculty advisers to obtain an access code before they will be permitted to request courses. Students, meeting with their adviser, should review their progress toward the completion of CPLE/AXLE requirements, major and (optional) minor requirements, and general degree requirements. Additionally to register, students’ accounts must be current (not overdue). Other reasons for registration holds are failure to submit a Buckley form (Consent to Release Academic Information), failure to declare a major (applicable to juniors and seniors), or missing permanent or local address information.
Registration information is emailed to continuing students at their Vanderbilt email addresses prior to the course request period. By the end of the course request period, students must have registered for a full load of courses (minimum of 12 hours). All course requests are stored in the system—there are no first-come, first-served seats during course request period. Students are urged to take advantage of the request period. Those who do not will find their choice of courses limited. Every effort is made to enroll students in the courses and sections requested, but where demand exceeds the supply of college resources, students will be moved to another meeting time of the same course, or “bumped” altogether.
After the course request period, students will be notified concerning the status of their course requests. During registration period OASIS will re-open for students to make changes in their registration or to register late. Courses and sections become available on a first come, first served basis depending upon seat availability. Students “bumped” from an overenrolled course have first access to the system during this period.
Tuition, fees, and all other charges must be cleared one week before the beginning of the semester. These dates are specified in the University Calendar and on the Office of Student Accounts website. Prior to the first day of class, course registrations will be cancelled for anyone whose financial account is past due.
Registration period ends at 4:00 p.m. on the day before the first day of classes.
Students register for courses using OASIS. Basic information about Oasis can be found at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/secureoasis. Those having a computer with a network link can register from their dorm rooms; others may register by using the computers in the Microcomputer Laboratories or the terminals in the Computer Center.

Registration for May Session is held in the office of the student's Registrar for all students enrolled on campus for the spring semester. During registration, courses are in open status so that a student can request his or her first choice of May Session courses. Following registration, course enrollments are reviewed and adjustments made. If a course is over-enrolled, students in excess of the number admissible may be "bumped." Should this be necessary, bumping is done according to a scheme that gives highest enrollment priority to senior majors, lowest to freshmen. In courses for which this priority scheme would not be appropriate, other criteria will be used for selecting students to be bumped. Students will be notified immediately after the close of registration if they have been bumped from a course and will be given the opportunity to register for an open course.
